PSDA & Water Rescue has been training Public Safety Officers since 1972. Members are qualified to conduct training in several different areas of water and land based special ops. We offer the following PSDA programs:

Public Safety Diving Basic Public Safety Diving
This course is designed to give the entry level public safety diver the basic skills needed to effectively function on SCUBA diving calls for service. The objective of this course is to introduce the entry level public safety diver to the differences in equipment between Recreational Diving and Public Safety Diving; What is Public Safety Diving and Water Rescue? Environments encounter during calls for service; Recruitment and Retention; Fitness for duty; Funding for your team; OSHA Required Documentation; Equipment selection and maintenance; Incident Command and NIMS; Managing scene safety and security; Equipment staging; Witness interviewing; Underwater crime scene awareness; Search patterns; Search theory and probability of detection; Handling a victim from the rescue to the emergency room; Contingency procedures; Vehicle recovery: tow truck operations; Meets NFPA 1006 & 1670 and NIMS requirements;

Public Safety Diving Underwater Crime Scene Investigation
This specialty course is designed to give the public safety diver the skills, knowledge, planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards with processing an underwater crime scene. Our course is intended to serve as a safe and supervised introduction into the underwater crime scene and how to investigate and process it correctly. For your final exam, we will be having you process an underwater crime scene to determine what actually occurred.

Public Safety Diving Boat Based Search Operations
This course is designed to teach the public safety diver how to conduct a search operation using a boat as your diving platform. Through the use of a buoy grid system you will be able to clear an area as large 25,000 to 35,000 feet in a short time. You will also become familiar with how to proper anchor your boat platform using a three point anchor system. This course is intended to serve as a safe and supervised introduction into boat based operations.

Public Safety Diving Dry Suit Diving
This specialty course is designed to teach the public safety diver how to protect themselves from both the cold and any of the contaminates which can be found in water, while using a dry suit. Dry suit diving addresses the proper precautions needed when diving in these potentially hazards conditions. Without proper protection from your potentially hazardous diving environment, your PSD operation may come to an end. The goal of our course is to teach both the diver and tender, the proper procedures for divers to dive while using dry suits during a public safety operation. In your course, you will learn safe procedures to dive and maintain a dry suit; how to put on and take off a dry suit during a PSD operation, proper weighting; how to dive in your suit, which is inflated completely, along with how to correct it; rescue procedures when you are upside down; dry suit flooding emergency procedures, and much more. Our course is intended to serve as a safe, supervised introduction to public safety dry suit diving.

Public Safety Diving Full Face Mask Diving
This course is designed to teach the public safety diver the proper procedures needed to complete a public safety dive using a full face mask. We specialized in using both the AGA and Guardian Full Face Mask, but also have several others for your divers to try during the course. Many departments combine this course with our Underwater Communications course.

Public Safety Diving Underwater Communications
This course is designed to teach the public safety diver the proper procedures, skills and knowledge to communicate underwater using different techniques, lights, lines, hands, touch, and slates. This will standardize the signals being used by public safety divers to communicate underwater, minimizing confusion and misunderstanding. When using hardwire communication equipment, you will also learn the proper voice techniques for diver to diver and diver to surface communications.

Public Safety Diving Equipment Repair Specialist
This specialty course is designed to familiarize the public safety diver the with the operation and maintenance of your PSD equipment. This is not a manufacturer equipment repair course. However, we have combined our course with various manufacturers so you can learn how to repair and overhaul your PSD equipment.
