PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities, qualifying you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers. PADI Divemaster is the prerequisite certification for both the PADI Assistant Instructor and PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certifications.

What You Learn
During the PADI Divemaster program, you learn dive leadership skills through both classroom and independent study. You complete water skills and stamina exercises, as well as training exercises that stretch your ability to organize and solve problems as well as help others improve their scuba. You put this knowledge into action through a structured internship or series of practical training exercises.

The Scuba Gear You’ll Use
You will use all the basic scuba equipment and some scuba accessories such as a dive slate, dive knife, compass, dive watch, etc. It is highly recommended that you own all of your own scuba equipment, as familiarity with personal gear improves general scuba diving skills. What will I do?
Diving Knowledge and Theory: You’ll start your Divemaster program, reading the newest edition of the PADI Divemaster manual and answer the Knowledge Reviews at the end of each chapter. Then you’re on to the PADI Diving Knowledge Workbook. This book contains information on diving physics, physiology, scuba equipment, general skills and the environment, and the Recreational Dive Planner. Upon completion of the workbook, you’ll get together with your instructor to review both books and answer any questions. You’ll also learn about, supervising students in both training and general diving activities, the business of diving, risk management and furthering your diving career.
Confined Water Skills: During the pool sessions your watermanship skills & stamina, general diving skills, rescue diver and problem solving ability will be assessed. You and your instructor will work on perfecting your diving skills so they are at demonstration quality.
Mapping Exercise: You will be conducting a mapping exercise with your instructor. They will assign you an open water training site to map. Besides a drawing, include all the necessary emergency information which pertains to the dive site.
Open Water Skills: During the open water portion, you will be preparing an open water site for a training exercise, along with conducting an environmental assessment of the site. Before you give your dive briefing, you should have a working knowledge of the site and the conditions which can exist. As an instructional assistant, you will be helping students with their entries and exits through the surf zone, demonstrating the proper control of students, assist with diver supervision, and provide assessment of students. Along with acting as an instructional assistant, you will also be conducting a Discover Local Diving experience. You will be learning how to cope with divers during non-training situation.
