What You Learn
The PADI Jr. Open Water Diver course consists of four easy steps:
Knowledge Development: to understand basic principles of scuba diving.
Step 1: Your first step is to start off with our home study program, in which you will complete the 5 chapters in the book. You can do this by e-learning, CD-ROM or Book & DVD.
Step 2: Come to class with your knowledge reviews filled out. In class we will go over the material and answer your questions.
Confined Water Dives: to learn basic scuba skills
Step 3: You will need to complete 5 pool dives. You can accomplish this by either week day, week night or weekend pool dives or a combination.
Open Water Dives: to review your skills and explore!
Step 4: You will need to complete 4 open water dives to become certified. You can accomplish this by either completing your dives over 2 days in our local waters or completing your dives over 2 days while you are on vacation.
The Fun Part
The fun part about this course is … well, just about all of it because learning to dive is awesome! You breathe underwater for the first time (something you’ll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver.
The Scuba Gear You Use
In the PADI Jr. Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear including an Air Delivery System, a Buoyancy System, an Exposure System, a Weight System and an Information System, as well as some diving accessories.
You will need to purchase the following items: PADI Open Water Diver Student kit (see options above), a mask, snorkel, fins, boots, gloves and defog solution. We have personal equipment packages starting at $199.99 through to $350.00 (receive a discount if purchased at your orientation). Check with the staff at Dive N Trips about the gear you’ll use during this course. You can find everything you will need at Dive N Trips.
Any gear you purchase for your class that does not meet your needs or fits properly will be exchanged for you prior to your open water dives. Please tell your instructor during the pool dives, so that we can address any equipment issues.
The Learning Materials You Need
PADI offers a variety of home-study materials for the Open Water Diver course. While eLearning is the most convenient option, you may also chose a book and DVD package.
PADI’s Open Water Diver materials cover what you need to know about basic scuba diving skills, terminology and safety procedures. For each concept you’ll read a description and watch a video demonstration. Then you’ll jump in the pool to practice these skills with your instructor. Later, as a certified diver, use the course materials as a reference guide for future diving adventures and to review what you learned.
Note: Enroll in the PADI Open Water Diver Course Online for immediate computer-based access to the manual and video integrated into seamless, guided online learning.
