Course Requirements

In order to qualify to take the Divemaster program, you must:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be certified as a PADI Advanced OW and PADI Rescue Diver
  • Must have medical clearance signed by a physician
  • Must have 40 logged dives
  • Have an enthusiastic attitude and want to have FUN!

PADI Divemaster Duties

As a PADI Divemaster, you will be able to:

  • Work at local dive centers, on live-aboard dive boats, yachts and at exotic resort locations
  • Assist PADI Instructors with students
  • Lead PADI Scuba Divers on guided dive tours
  • Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers
  • Teach PADI Discover Snorkeling programs
  • Conduct PADI Scuba Review programs for certified divers
  • Lead certified divers on Discover Local Diving experiences
  • Teach Emergency First Response programs after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor course.
  • Teach portions of the Underwater Digital Photography course after successful completing an Instructor course.

Materials and Equipment Needed

Materials Needed:

  • PADI Divemaster student crew pack (includes Divemaster Manual, Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving, and certification application)
  • PADI Divemaster DVD
  • PADI Diving Knowledge Workbook
  • PADI Dive Tables

Diving Equipment Required:

As a Divemaster candidate, you will need all your own SCUBA equipment.

  • Mask, snorkel, fins
  • Wetsuit, hood, boots, gloves
  • BCD
  • Regulator system with dive computer
  • Weights and weight belt
  • Surface marker buoy and reel
  • Signaling device (whistle or horn)
  • Cutting device (knife or shears)
  • Basic first aid kit
  • Basic “save-a-dive” kit with o-rings and basic tools
  • Float with anchor system and at least 30′ of line

Course Scheduling

Becoming a PADI Divemaster is simple as one, two, three!

Orientation: Two hours of course logistics, paperwork and equipment fitting

Classroom: Several classroom sessions of 3 to 4 hours each consisting of diving knowledge and dive theory

Pool: Several pool sessions of 3 to 4 hours each to go over confined water and watermanship skills
Open Water Dives: Several open water dives and practical application workshops

Your Instructor will sit down and design a schedule to assist you with completing your program.
