Public Safety Diving Academy: Level 1 - Basic Public Safety Diving
Overview:
The Public Safety Diver Academy - Level I course is designed to give the entry level public safety diver the basic skills needed to effectively function on SCUBA diving calls for service.
Objectives:
The objective of the Public Safety Diver Academy - Level I course is to introduce the entry level public safety diver to:
- Differences in equipment between Recreational Diving and Public Safety Diving
- What is Public Safety Diving and Water Rescue?
- Environments encounter during calls for service
- Recruitment and Retention
- Fitness for duty
- Funding for your team
- OSHA Required Documentation
- Equipment selection and maintenance
- Incident Command and NIMS
- Managing scene safety and security
- Equipment staging
- Witness interviewing
- Underwater crime scene awareness
- Search patterns
- Search theory and probability of detection
- Handling a victim from the rescue to the emergency room
- Contingency procedures
- Vehicle recovery: tow truck operations
- Meets NFPA 1006 & 1670 and NIMS requirements
Course Hours:
Our Level I course is presented over four days and combines classroom, confined water and open water exercises.
Prerequisites:
In order to qualify to take this program you must be 18 years old and Open Water SCUBA certification from a nationally recognized SCUBA diving training agency. You must be able to pass a swimming and SCUBA diving skills proficiency test. There are no prerequisites for Tenders.
Requirements:
Eight successful, 20-25 minute logged dives per diver. Each student must serve as a tender for a minimum of 4 dives.
Course Fee:
Diver: $350.00 Tender: $175.00
Our course includes classroom, pool and open water instruction, PS Diver Textbook, PS Diver Workbook & logbook for each student along with your certification fees. For an extra fee, you can also request to be certified in Full Face Mask and Dry Suit diving.
After successful completion, you will be awarded the rating PSDA Level I and must continue to be involved in Public Safety Diving throughout the year to maintain your certification.
