Dive N Trips' Tahoe Adventure
August 28 & 29, 2010
Welcome to our 2010 trip to Lake Tahoe!!
Come join us for a fun, adventurous and exciting dive trip to the Jewel of the High Sierras, Lake Tahoe! We have enjoyed great diving, with visibility reaching over 75 feet and water temperatures ranging from the 70's near the surface. Some of our favorite dive locations include, Meeks Bay on the northwest side of the lake, Sand Harbor on Tahoe's northeast shore, Cave Rock also found on the east shore, Emerald Bay and its interesting wrecks, and Rubicon Wall with its straight granite cliffs.
DIVING INFORMATION
This year we will be diving at Meeks Bay Resort on Saturday, August 28th, at 9am, where we will be meeting on the beach in front of the rock wall. Place your tarps, chairs and belongings in this area. We will be doing two dives at the park, with our day ending around 3pm. You should bring up at least four tanks with you if you plan on diving both days. The nearest air fills are either in Sacramento or Reno, NV.
For those who wish to dive with us on Sunday, we will decide which dive site we will dive, before we leaving Meeks Bay on Saturday. If you or any of your friends are planning on diving with our group, but not attending any of the courses being offered during the weekend, we ask that you sign a waiver and release form.
Dive site information: Meeks Bay
Meeks Bay is located 5 miles north of Emerald Bay along Highway 89. The name "Meeks Bay" was derived from the Meeks brothers in 1862, who harvested wild hay which grew there. We weill be diving at “Meeks Bay Resort”, which is a privately-owned resort with cabins for rent, picnic tables, campgrounds, and a boat launch area. In addition, there are clean restrooms, a telephone, snack bar and small store. Parking is plentiful, providing easy access to the water. There is a fee to enter into the resort for the day.
There is a short distance to the waters edge, and an entry point is anywhere along the length of the beach. Upon entry, a short surface swim leads to deeper water. The depth is approximately 10 to 15 feet, gradually extending into deeper water. Bottom composition is sandy with dead trees and rocks scattered along the slope. Visibility here can exceed 75 feet on a good day. Heading north, there is a rock ledge at around 60 feet. Often, schools of minnows, whitefish, mackinaw, and many crawdads hiding under large trees can be seen here.
Starting at the swim area buoys, the bottom drops faster at a 45° angle into the abyss of sand, providing great visibility. The abyss is at a sharp angle, although not considered a wall dive. The two points of rocks on the north and south end of the bay designate the Meeks Bay area. Depending on your point of entry, these rocky points define the changing bottom composition. On the south side of the bay there are two small wrecks in which to dive on.
This is an excellent family-oriented diving site. Plan on spending a nice day after diving, by enjoying a picnic lunch at one of the many picnic tables situated along the beach.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
Fri. Evening: Arrive at Lake Tahoe: You will need to arrive at the lake the night before due to the altitude change.

We are also planning on a boat dive trip. More details to follow.
Sun. Afternoon: Plan on at least completing at least a two hour surface interval before you head back over either pass. Most of the time, we usually leave around 3pm. This gives you enough time to off-gas before heading over the pass on Hwy 50 or Hwy 80.
